Toronto swimmers are heading to specific waterfront and park locations for consistent lap sessions this summer.

Toronto opened extra lap lanes at multiple outdoor sites on July 1 as daily high temperatures climbed past 28 degrees Celsius.
Summer heat has pushed residents toward water-based exercise along the 56-kilometre Waterfront Trail and inside established park systems. City data shows a 22 percent rise in pool check-ins compared with the same week in 2025, reflecting both the multicultural wellness scene and the year-round habit of outdoor training that continues even when winter returns.
Sunnyside Pool at 1755 Lake Shore Boulevard West now runs dedicated lap sessions from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekdays. Swimmers share the 50-metre lanes with members of the Lakeshore Masters club, which books two lanes each morning. Further east, the rock-lined cove at Humber Bay Park East near Park Lawn Road offers a 200-metre straightaway between fixed buoys that the Toronto Waterfront Aquatics program marked in June for interval training.
High Park staff added a second set of lane ropes at the Grenadier Pond entry point on July 3 after residents requested longer distances away from the main beach area. The pond section runs 300 metres and is restricted to swimmers wearing bright caps between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Both locations sit within a 15-minute bike ride of the waterfront trail entrance at Bathurst Quay.
Single-entry admission at Sunnyside Pool costs $5.75 for adults and remains free for children under 14. Humber Bay Park East requires no fee but operates under a city permit system that limits group size to 12 people at any one time. The Toronto Public Health advisory issued on July 8 lists water-quality test results updated every 48 hours on the city website.
Swimmers planning a session should arrive before 8 a.m. to secure a lane at Sunnyside or check the daily buoy map posted at Humber Bay Park East. Those new to the sites can join the free 30-minute orientation offered by Parks Toronto staff each Saturday at 9 a.m. through the end of August.
